Galanterie di vetro. Il Risorgimento vetrario di Murano nella collezione de Boos-Smith

(Exquisite glass ornaments. The Murano glass revival in the de Boos-Smith Collection)

Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti
Palazzo Loredan, Campo Santo Stefano, Venice
17 March - 2 May 2010

Curated by Rosa Barovier Mentasti, the exhibition was promoted by the Istituto Veneto di Scienze Lettere ed Arti and the Regione del Veneto. On display are over 250 pieces that were made during the Nineteenth century on the island of Murano, selected and organised according to the various glass-making techniques used. The items come from the English market and belong to the collection of Fiorella and Phillip de Boos-Smith, Londoners of Australian origins.

The arrangement of the exhibition focuses on the light-glass dialogue, without any other elements that might distract the visitor's attention, thus emphasising the technical finesse, decorative virtuosity and bold colours.

We designed the showcases, chose the kind of light (led) and its colour, using both common forms of lighting (spotlights) and innovative ones (column), and arranged the single pieces in "working families", so that the intense islands of light "pierce" the areas of the exhibition that have been left in the dark.

This was done in close collaboration with the graphics studio, Tapiro.
