The project has been developed on a lot located in the south-west part of the island of Borgøy, with the aim of creating a "hospitality" complex (resort) in an organic relationship with the island, being non-invasive and respectful of the character, environment and history of the places.
The functional features required were the number of rooms (80-100), communal areas as well as a restaurant designed to accommodate a cooking school, wellness and fitness areas, a conference centre with music recording studio and a small sales area. Outside, the works included residential units, a large amount of landscaping, facilities for open-air activities, floating jetties to allow private pleasure craft to dock and a pier for the ferry from the mainland (Steinsvika).
The project envisaged the orientation of the main buildings according to the best exposure to sunlight throughout the year, installing large windows on the southern side and protecting the northern face from atmospheric agents. A special design feature of the architectural structure will protect it from winds coming from the south-west.
The layout of the buildings slopes from the front of the quarry to the sea and the main views from the inside are directed towards the mouth of the fjord, i.e. towards the largest opening in the surrounding landscape.
Sustainability (respect for the environment, healthy materials used, guest welfare, etc.), respect for the environment and compatibility with the landscape, reduced consumption, energy efficiency, on-site waste treatment and optimization of the structure's control and communications technologies are the main objectives pursued by the project.
